Three modes of thinning transformation (un-thinning +interplanted, 30% thinning+ interplanted, 60% thinning + interplanted) and one control stand of Acacia mangiumin plantations in the Dongguan Forest Research Park, Guangdong Province of South China were taken as the objects to study the soil characteristics. This paper was studied the effects of thinning on physical and chemical characteristics, soil microorganism and soil enzyme activities in winter and summer after thinning 11 years. The results showed that: (1) There was significant difference in the soil physical and chemical characteristics of thinning treatments between the dry and wet seasons. In the dry season, the total N and NO3-N content were lower, other contents were higher. Nevertheles, in the wet season, the total N and NO3-N content were higher and other contents had consumption high. (2) Thinning increased soil microbial biomass, and the soil microbial biomass in the day season was higher than that of wet season. (3) Thinning also improved the forest coverage and increased the soil enzyme activity. The soil phosphatase and urease activities in the dry season were higher than those in wet season. (4) PCA showed that there was significant correlation between the soil physical and chemical properties, microbial biomass and enzyme activity in both dry and wet season. The responsive of the spatial distribution and soil index were different. Interplanted native species in the plantation without thinning could effective improvement the soil fertility, meanwhile, enhanced the soil microbial biomass and soil enzyme activities.
